The City of Watonga maintains over 250 acres of land dedicated to a broad variety of recreational uses for Watonga’s residents and visitors. Facilities consist of 4 softball fields, 4 baseball fields, 6 soccer fields, a skate park, a splash pad, and multiple locations with playground equipment. The Parks Department also maintains the local municipal airport grounds at the city’s Northwest corner.
The City employs 4 full-time positions in the Parks Department, as well as seasonal workers who help maintain the parks. During the winter months, Parks staff service all of the equipment, repair irrigation and park structures, and assist with other departments as needed. Location: Huff-Lorang Park (North of Watonga High School)
Hours: Open through Labor Day, September 6.
Watonga Parks are currently open to the public. The Parks Department requests that citizens follow State of Oklahoma recommendations when using public spaces.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the following guidelines for use of public spaces to help the prevent the spread of COVID-19.
- Please continue to maintain social distancing—stay 6 feet apart
- Wash your hands for 20 seconds with warm water and soap
- Stay home if you are sick or have been exposed to COVID-19
- Limit gatherings to 10 people or less until guidelines are reevaluated by the State of Oklahoma
